Lizzy Snoek is one of the most remarkable ladies in Steytlerville. Born and raised in a dusty and tiny Eastern Karoo hamlet called Mount Stewart, she inevitably spent many years as a treasured housekeeper in the city of Port Elizabeth in order to sustain herself and her family financially.
Her yearning for the simple Karoo lifestyle led her to search for a place where she could comfortably settle. Lizzie put down roots in Steytlerville and pursued her dream of owning her own business. In her quiet and unassuming way she achieved success. From a small spaza shop in Vuyolwethu, she expanded her business to include a popular restaurant and now also offers one reasonably priced, well-appointed double bedroom available to those who do not wish to stay over in the town itself.
Lizzy is a perfect hostess – gracious, gentle and nurturing and her establishment is an inspiration to the Steytlerville community.
The media has given her outstanding exposure and Lizzy's Khaya is high on the list of what a tourist must experience in Steytlerville. She is dedicated to serving delicious foods and dispensing the warmth of hospitality. Her specialty is comfort food inspired by traditional cuisine. These include roosterbrood, vetkoek, curry, and traditional lamb stew. Her baking is outstanding, providing devilishly delicious cakes, biscuits, koeksisters, malva puddings and melktert. This package includes: Accommodation, a sundowner cocktail with canapés, Dinner – starters and mains followed by the “Steytlerville Follies” Show – rounding off the evening with a buffet selection of desserts, cheeses, port, coffee. Also included is a generous buffet breakfast on Sunday morning.
